Totnes is a beautiful town, very quirky and lots of interesting back streets to explore with cobbled paving and gorgeous old buildings. The main street is very special and full of lovely little independent gift shops, cafes etc. I have been here several times over the years and am always keen to return.

Totnes is a lovely place to visit for a short stay or mini break. We loved the variety of shops in the town which had a lovely vibe. The weekend market was fantastic! We also loved the sustainability factor! Being on the river meant there were also lots of lovely places to explore as well as the opportunity to take a delightful boat trip to Dartmouth! Totnes makes a great base from which to explore other areas like aTorquay, Paignton, Brixham and Dartmouth. There are good transport links so if you don’t drive, it’s not an issue! Would definitely visit Totnes again! :-)

Totnes is one of those places that once visited you know you will return to. It's located on a river that creates a sense of horizontal flow at the bottom of the town. Crossing the bridge towards the town centre, looking up, you may feel a little faint that the main shopping street requires quite a hike to the top of the street. But don't be larmed1 The way to do it is to zig-zag, lacing from one interesting shop to the next. Especially, explore the numerous charity shops for branded shirts and leather jackets presumably gifted by upmarket locals. When you finally get towards the top of the street you will find lovely cafes and restaurants serving delicious local foods. We decided to take away delicious vegetarian food from Seeds, and sit in the little green park, just off the nearby square.

Only visited the Steamer Quay.
Only visited the Steamer Quay. The parking payment options were crap and not working causing a backlog. The Cafe next to the Booking office was excellent and the Boss allowed me to park as I could not obtain a Parking Ticket. The Dartmouth Boat trip is good.

A good spot for an active vacation 4-7 days.
A good spot for an active vacation 4-7 days. Lots of outdoor possibilities, fresh air, good food and friendly people. Local bicycle rental would be nice. Totnes is also a kind of place where a language school for adults might be a success.
Lovely start to the day with a full English, quality meats. Very friendly hosts Sue and Grahame, and the locals. Comfortable bed, kettle in the room with a fridge, teas/coffee/chocolate and a full pint of milk, not those little plastic thimbles you get in most hotels - loved this. Spacious clean bathroom. Good dining, and if you are an ale lover, they keep a good cellar, on sale my husband would thoroughly recommend Taylors Landlord, Jail ale and Shipyard.
Great place to stay just outside Totnes. Staverton is in beautiful countryside with amazing walks down to the river Dart and into the Dartington Estate. room was good with a fab bathroom with a freestanding bath. The bar area and restaurant were spacious and cozy and all of the food we had was excellent. Best of all we’re the staff, particularly Charlotte and Victoria, who provided the very best service making us and our dog Lola very welcome. A great place.
The hotel is in a fantastic location formerly owned by the chef Keith Floyd. The staff were very welcoming and the food especially the Sunday roast was superb. The breakfast was fantastic. Excellent polite service. We had a budget room but it was clean and comfortable. And the cost? £65 B&B. Compare that with another waterfront hotel we stayed at in Totnes- £160 for the night and very mediocre breakfast for £15 each!!
Beautiful & thoughtfully renovated barn nestled in the South Hams.
Perfect location close to Dartmouth, Totnes, Kingsbridge. Spectacular surrounding countryside & smaller villages to explore.
Comfortable, clean, well equipped. Everything in tip-top condition & working order.
Thank you David & Kate for welcoming us & for the fresh flowers and home-baked shortbread on arrival.
I have stayed here before. Its location was ideal. A slightly old-fashioned hotel (and none the worse for that), close to Totnes station and in the heart of the town, 50 metres from the Dart with its wonderful riverbank walks. The hotel has a nice (St Austell's) pub. Good breakfasts (especially if you want cooked English breakfasts), good food in general.
The location of this hotel is amazing, right on the river, so peaceful and beautiful views. Lovely to sit outside having something to eat or drink just watching the river and the boats. We actually stayed in two separate rooms on our stay and the first room was basic but clean and comfortable. Dog friendly so that was great for us
Beautiful location near Totnes. Amazing gardens and river walks and such a relaxing place. Meals at the White Hart restaurant (on site) were superb. We found the room facilities excellent, especially the wide deep bath and endless hot water. If you want a relaxing break in South Devon it's hard to recommend better.
The Steam Packet inn is situated 3-4 min walk from Totnes shops. It is next to the river Dart with a terrace overlooking the active waterway. The food was good and portions excellent. Our room was extremely comfortable, the bed one of the best hotel beds I have slept in.
Cosy, friendly pub & hotel. Superb cooked breakfasts with plenty for vegetarians. I felt very welcome and relaxed as a single (woman) guest. Great range of beers and whiskeys too. Lovely location by the river and a 5 minute walk from the centre.
The room was lovely, the restaurant and bar were perfect too. The food was great, and there was a good atmosphere. The location was good too, and I liked the walk into Totnes. It's also a beautiful hotel, I love thatched cottages.
The apartment was lovely and clean with clean lines decor and fitments, bed was comfortable and the place had everything needed and more 😁 and compared with hotels in the area was up to £800 a night cheaper!! 🤩
Everything , Julie made us so welcome and was a wonderful host .the room was spacious and spotless. The breakfast sat in the lovely conservatory was perfect .Perfect location for a short walk into Totnes.
Beautiful location and friendly staff, willing to find you information on the local area. Perfect for a getaway with your partner. Our dog loves this place as he was free to roam around the property.
The decor and ambience of the property, especially the bedrooms and all upstairs was superb. The property was spacious and spotlessly clean and had almost everything required for a perfect stay.
- The staff were a credit to Totnes. Extremely helpful and nice
- Rooms were lovely. Our bedroom double was nice and clean.
- Food at the hotel was great.
